Hey Eric – this is so cool! “Fool’s Wisdom” was one of my first ‘Jesus Music’ discoveries. Someone taught me to play the guitar pick for “The World Needs Jesus” in the army and I’ve loved it ever since. I remember and often think of the line from one of their songs – “I love a Bible that’s been well-used”.
BTW. I’ve been hunting on the web for some time now for a group from England I used to listen to called “Nutshell” – ever heard of them?
I’ve been inspired to hunt through my old tapes and have found some Ted Sandquist, Randy Matthews and Bethlehem – plus some of my own old recordings of jamming with friends etc. which I will check out again for nostalgia’s sake.
Dave,
I also have fond memories of this duo. Though some have said they were the Christian equivalent of the Beatles, I think they had a very distinctive sound of their own.
I think my favorite ‘Fred Field’ album would be ‘Fred Field and Friends’
This was most helpful. Many thanks, Eric. I plan to recommend your blogs to some of my friends on Facebook – friends from way back who will enjoy being reminded of all this beautiful music. Trust that’s ok with you?
You’re kidding – it’s a singular joy! I never thought that, my internet adventure would expand the way it has.
However, I put up this blog, so as to attempt to stem my obsession with the internet, and focus more directly on recording and performing, hence my most recent post about my struggles to find work in England:
…that and hopefully to edit-correct my tragic errors; (during my King James Only Phase) by either re-writing my various internet writings, featured here ( Pophead Chronicles ) – except for ‘From Abraxas to Jesus’ ( which I am most pleased with, though it is a scrap of horrific syntax and wicked grammar, and sorely in need of an editor) – I have considered, writing a new book, sort of a sequel but I am so busy dealing with discussions about the primary doctrines relating to ‘the resurrection of the dead and the eternal judgment’ – and finding this overflowing into the music, that I shall probably just leave it there, and hopefully somehow bring it all to fruition in ‘unknown landscapes’ – sort of a combination of noises, doodles and scribbles. Who knows? I know someone who does, and for now I am just resting in that.
