After the Google free pages closed down, ‘My Jesus Music Quest’ needed a new home, and so I did the best to copy the pages (hence they are a bit small). My Jesus Music Quest began in the 2000′s and came about after I decided to choose, what I believed to be the very best ‘Jesus Music Albums’ I had enjoyed over the years. I chose the ones I might have liked to discover in a treasure chest, if I had been stranded on a deserted Island. The cover art was a big
priority, and of course the inspiration and overall musicality was a big factor. As I searched for the albums, my heart was inspired. The beautiful BIG COVERS and the VYNIL, which spin so happily on my olde turntable. Other like Jamie Owen’s – Laugher in your soul, Dan Peek’s – All Things Are Possible and so many others overflowed onto Jesus Music II, III, IV, V and more… here, and still to come, the final part : The Jesus Music Quest VII

There are no free dowloads here, but rather links to the websites of these troubadours, and pioneers of Jesus Music. My journey began in 1977, when I first listened to the music of Mustard Seed Faith, Malcolm and Alwyn and the 2nd Chapter of Acts, ….and so on…enjoy the trip…peace, Eric.

Hi Eric,
What about a My Jesus Music Quest (UK) artists only
Hi David,
I did an internet search and could not find ‘Jesus Music Quest (UK) artists only’. Please hook me up.
I never really concentrated on a particular country, but rather on the genre : Jesus Music. The first part of my ‘personal’ – Jesus Music Quest, included the British duo – Malcolm Wild and Alwyn Wall, and the albums ‘Fool’s Wisdom’ and ‘Wildwall’.
My initial objective with my ‘Jesus Music Quest’, was to take a pick from 250+ albums, which I had acquired since 1977 (thereabouts) a pick of albums which I might enjoy listening to if I were say, stranded on a desert island.
I spent most of my time surfing the internet, looking for good deals on albums, and even found a double spread copy of Randy Stonehills’ – Welcome to Paradise (with a hobo sitting on a bench). Additional to that I found two others sources for vynil (for I wanted the old covers) and found nearly all of the original 32. I added ‘Mansion Builder’ by 2nd Chapter of Acts to the list.
Of course, while I was busy on my journey, I realized that I had not included ‘Adrian Snel’ and ‘John Pantry’ and so I began a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Jesus Music Quest, which included bands like ‘Parchment’ … the list goes on. However, I was primarily influenced by the American Jesus Music, but have subsequently come to realize that the Jesus Music scene was NOT exclusively and American thing (though they certainly did make a BIG NOISE) . I discovered ‘Ancient Star-Song’ and ‘Heavenly Grooves’ , as well as ‘The Time Has Told Us’ , who clearly show that the Jesus Music was expressive of a global flood of inspiration from God, and not just a localized one.
I will keep looking for ‘Jesus Music Quest (UK) artists only’, but if you have a link (url) please post it up.
Love,
Eric.
Hi Eric,
Would you believe I have, or have had, nearly every record on this list at one time? But hey, you left out the Pat Terry Group. One of my favs. I really liked Noel Paul Stookey’s Christian recordings back then too. I know, I know, so many records, so little time….
Hi Charles,
Awesome that you discovered this. This was only the start of my quest. In subsequent quests, the list grew and grew, and yet it includes Pat Terry and Noel Stookey’s ‘Band and Body Works’ – I particularly enjoyed, ‘Then The Quail Came’ Pat Terry was a totally new experience for me, and I guess in some ways, it’s still virgin territory.
After Jesus drew me in, I wanted absolutely nothing to do with music that did not somehow refer to him, and so I switched off for about a year. One morning, as I was wandered into Sunday School Book Centre ( probably 1977 ) and found a few albums with a sixties hippy type feel, and asked if they had anything that was a bit more upbeat. The guy sent me uptown, to a shop called, ‘IN’ , in Buitenkant street and that’s when I was first introduced to the music of Larry Norman, and Randy Stonehill. Sadly, the reaction from a very conservative city, did not see a huge volume of the Jesus Music, in particular the harder edge type music, until the early eighties.
About that time, I had graduated beyond ‘Resurrection Band’. I wanted to listen to music that was at the same level I was used to. So it was that I began listening to Kansas, in particular ‘Monolith’ and well the rest is history. These days, I don’t bother too much. If the music is good, and the lyrics have depth, then I guess I enjoy it. It’s always such a personal experience. Some dig Abba, and others dig Bowie, I did Kansas … etcetera. Progrock and Psych, still blow my mind, but I have always been a mad fan of America, CSN & Y (group and solo) , the Eagles and even some Beatles. Boy am I chatting up a storm.
Peace to you brother, and thanks SO MUCH for the DVD. Totally awesome.
Hey maybe we should get together and work a few songs. I loved your guitar styles. Awesome cat.
Peace,
Eric
