Fool’s Circle – EP – Eric Sawyer – 2011

Liner Notes:
We have been ripped, cracked, burned and busted and this is that. The 3 songs on ‘Fool’s Circle’ are ‘Top’ , ‘Jesus’ and ‘Holy Joe’ – I composed most of ‘Top’ in 1987, and was part of a song titled, ‘Lives in the Balance’ Like some lyrics that just don’t go away, they hung around until I wrote top, and suddenly it all fitted together. ‘Jesus’ was born about the same time, I was serving time in the Navy. Sammy would come around and play songs for the Christians, at a nearby Church. His singing was unforgettable. He jived and smiled with a smile that seemed to be accompanied by a glow, every time he sang the name ‘Jesus.’ ‘Holy Joe’ flowed out of a dream I had after my third father died. He came to me in my dream, and if he had been a pirate, he would have been one of those with a peg leg and a parrot on his shoulder, though I am not to sure about the parrot. Philip Meyer was his name, and he was a carpenter and a kind man, and he was standing in the neighbours garden. He reached out his hand towards me and he had this tiny black hard cover book, you know the one with a red binder and I took it and opened it and it was full of blue ink sentences of homely wisdom. The sort of wisdom he had shared with us wild one’s in our wild days. Then he disappeared. This was another one of those recordings, where I just went wild on my multi-tracker and did he lot. I hope it was as much fun for you, as it was for me. Peace, Eric – http://aerycksmusic.wordpress.com
