Biopolar Disorder and Salvation

Devil’s Island is a doubly true story about my conversion to Christ, and subsequent struggle with bi-polar disorder. In both instances, I was saved. The word saved is a very interesting word, as Wendy Francisco explains in her song ‘Sozo’

Sozo/Salvation encompasses the whole of our earthly life in all it’s many facets as well as the world to come. I was saved during a fourteen day stay in a Navy prison in 1976, and saved in 1991 after being confined to a mental institution due to symptoms of bi-polar disorder. Though I had to undergo expensive psychiatric therapy and embraced an atheistic lifestyle to stop my brain from frying as a result of an extreme overdose of heavy pentecostalism, I emerged in 2000 learning about Biblical Counselling aka. Dr. Jay E. Adams, and Dr. Richard Ganz, and finally through intensive prayer-meditation in 2005, I was able to gradually move off lithium as I learned how to control my mood swings by taking a daily walk with Jesus Christ to a secluded place alongside the mountain, where I learned how to really listen to God. In short, Jesus has truly saved my life. All Praise goes to Him who used both science and scripture and the mystical aspect of Christian prayer to sozo me. Thank you Jesus.
