Have you ever noticed how the terminology has been slowly changing with the times. Whether it is a case of us getting a clearer idea about the things that influence our life on earth, or whether we are diluting the Bible to make it fit in with the way that we think in 2011, it is nevertheless true that less people blame an invisible being for goings-on on our pale blue dot. There was definitely a time when I can remember people saying things like ‘That was definitely the work of the devil’, or ‘Get behind me Satan’ but slowly we have gone from Satan to Evil One, to Evil to influence and even in some cases people go as far as to say that there is only good.
When I started editing an ex-Rabbi’s book which dated back to the early 1900′s, there was certainly no doubt in his mind that there was an actual being who he described making use of various proof texts. It is my hope to explore these proof texts in a series of rough fact finding essays, taking into consideration the length and depth of current scholarship from as many differening view points as I can manage.
Firstly here is the link to the original book by Max Wertheimer, just so we can be clear about what it is that I am referring to.
