Biology was always fun even though the books required me to remember names that were longer than any that I had ever learned before.

Here I am in the charge office of what was originally called the ‘Beach Constables’ (later renamed, ‘Municipal Police’) multi-tasking to my hearts content on the switchboard, O.B, “Motorola” CB Radio handset and I even had time to listen to the plant expert who was sent in to doctor the pot plants.
“Windy Burn” he’d say in broken English and then launch into these long Latin names for each plant. As I was studying Biology for Matric (Grade 12) via a correspondence college (Rapid Results College) those old Latin names actually seemed kinda musical. (names like ‘Philodendron Monstera’, or was that ‘Begonia Monstera’ ?)
I had to get the hang of some pretty wicked Latin during school, but nothing quite as colourful as ‘Platyhelminthes‘ or ‘Clamydomonous.’ (All those years ago and I can still get the spelling right, but I’m afraid the details have melted into the mists of time.)
That’s part of the reason I started this category (Back To School) for I want to get back into Biology (even though I am in my early 50s, it’s still fun finding out about how things work, don’t work and should work etcetera.)
Michael Dowd’s lectures (though I am told he’s not that good and I should probably spend more time studying Kenneth Miller’s High School Biology books ~ Hey! I’ll get there
To watch the whole series: GOD, DARWIN and DELUSION with Kenneth Miller.

So without further ado let me welcome you to your own very special moment with Michael Dowd! ~ also author of ‘Thank God For Evolution!’ (Click on the banner and take the journey: (Zenjoy, Eric)
