The second song which came whispering through the country straight into my heart was ‘Back To The Country’ by Neil Young.
My connection to country life was established in the mid-eighties and has continued to flourish ever since, though I guess it all started when my heart heard ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ in the early seventies.
Many of those first generation hippies reacting to a world gone crazy, packed a few possessions and went off in search of a less cluttered way of life. Being part of the second generation of Hippiedom that message was reinforced by the colossal negative reaction which established the fact of two tribes headed in two very different directions.
It was either ‘Fat City’ or ‘Prairie Wind’, concrete jungles or this.
Whenever I go to the cities, I always feel claustrophobic and cannot wait to be heading back.
From country to country and country to country it’s great to be back in the country and with a couple of gigs coming up soon, that wind is going through my head. The first gig is at ‘The Dog Inn’ on Saturday. I’ll be playing a short set on my big box guitar with some harmonica between the wonderful, earthy and home-grown-feel ‘Hard Rain’ sets.
In April, I’ll be doing a quick set on the 20th at ‘The Music House’ in Norwich. So folks, it looks like I’m back to the country and looking forward to feel y’all.
Peace,
Blue Django
